At AdaptNI, we are proud to mark Deaf Awareness Week 2026, taking place from Monday 4th to Sunday 10th May.
This year’s theme is:
“Right to understand – Together, we break barriers”
The focus is on improving communication access, breaking down everyday barriers, and ensuring people who are Deaf or have hearing loss, can fully participate in work and society.
With approximately 1 in 4 people in Northern Ireland, this is an important opportunity to reflect on how we can all create more inclusive and accessible environments.
May the 4th Celebrations – Join Us
We are kicking off Deaf Awareness Week with our annual celebration event:

Raffles
Fun and connection
All funds raised will support AdaptNI to continue delivering vital services across Northern Ireland
Attending Stormont on Tuesday 28th April for National BSL Day was an incredibly powerful and memorable experience for everyone at AdaptNI. It marked a significant milestone, as the BSL and ISL Bill progressed to Royal Assent, recognising British Sign Language and Irish Sign Language in law. Being present for this moment was a reminder of the years of advocacy, lived experience, and collective effort that have brought us to this point. It represents real progress towards greater access, equality, and the right to understand for people who are deaf, have hearing loss, and/or tinnitus across Northern Ireland.
Bank Holiday Closure
Please note that AdaptNI will be closed on Monday 4th May due to the bank holiday. We will reopen as normal on Tuesday.
