About AdaptNI
AdaptNI is a non-profit Community Interest Company providing specialist employment, training, and wellbeing support to the Deaf, hearing loss, and tinnitus communities across Northern Ireland. We are the only organisation in Northern Ireland delivering tailored employment support for Deaf BSL/ISL users and those with hearing loss or tinnitus.
We deliver a range of projects including WorkableNI, SkillSET, and the newly funded Transitions Programme, offering early intervention support to young Deaf, hearing loss, and tinnitus individuals aged 16–24.
About the Role
​This role supports the delivery of our Early Intervention and Transitions Programme, which aims to help young Deaf, hearing loss, and tinnitus people (aged 16–24) access education, training, work experience, and employment opportunities. You will work directly with young people and their families, schools, youth groups, and employers to create inclusive pathways and remove barriers to successful transitions.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver one-to-one and group support for young people to identify aspirations and develop personal progression plans.

Support participants to access training, education, work placements, or employment opportunities.

Facilitate workshops on CV writing, interview skills, self-advocacy, and workplace rights.

Contribute to the NI-wide Work Experience Week, ensuring communication support (e.g., BSL/ISL interpreters, electronic note-takers).

Liaise with schools, Deaf youth groups, careers services, and training providers to identify and engage participants.

Provide post-programme support to signpost to UKSPF SkillSET programme or Further Education.

Deliver employer engagement sessions, including Deaf awareness training, to promote inclusive recruitment and retention practices.

Monitor and record participant progress, feedback, and outcomes.

Support the Project Lead with evaluation and impact reporting, including case studies and testimonials.

Maintain confidentiality and adhere to AdaptNI’s safeguarding and data protection policies.
Person Specification
Essential
-
Awareness and understanding of Deaf culture, hearing loss, and/or tinnitus.
-
Experience providing advice, guidance, or mentoring to young people.
-
Strong communication skills, with ability to work across a range of stakeholders.
-
Ability to manage a caseload, track progress, and deliver outcomes to deadlines.
-
Proven IT skills (e.g., MS Office, email, Zoom/Teams, record-keeping software).

Ability to work independently, flexibly, and remotely.
-
Willingness to travel across Northern Ireland.

Access to suitable transport.
-
Commitment to inclusion, equal opportunities, and the rights of Deaf and disabled young people.

Desirable
-
L2 or above in BSL or ISL or lived experience in Sign Language.

Previous experience working with Deaf young people.

Knowledge of education/employment pathways in Northern Ireland.

Experience organising events or placements with employers or training providers.

Understanding of safeguarding policies and practice.
