Since its launch, born from necessity, in July 2022, AdaptNI is the region’s only provider of dedicated, Deaf aware and culturally competent support – addressing barriers that have too often been under delivered in mainstream employment services.
In just three years, AdaptNI has:
Supported 74 people through the Workable NI programme
Helped 37 people progress into unsupported employment
Delivered SkillSET support to 84 participants, with 31 progressing into work
Provided GCSE-equivalent accredited training to 43 individuals Supported 34 people into further or higher education
Offered in-work and pre-work support, including CV writing, job coaching and workplace adjustments
Delivered tinnitus support and wellbeing sessions, signposting and peer engagement
Launched a 1-year Youth Transitions Pilot in June 2025 for Deaf, hearing loss and tinnitus young people aged 16–24
Delivered Deaf awareness training to employers and organisations
Contributed meaningfully to the development and consultation on BSL and ISL legislation for Northern Ireland
Supported 72 people who didn’t fall within a formal project – with 7 already moving into paid employment in 2025
“This work is personal and powerful,” said Laura Murphy-Sloan, Co-founder of AdaptNI. “We know that Deaf, hearing loss and tinnitus communities are often the last to be considered in mainstream services – so we built a service where they are the first. These numbers represent real people whose journeys have changed.”
AdaptNI continues to grow in response to need, collaborating with employers, schools, FE colleges, health services and policy leads to champion equality, access, and opportunity.
Thank you to everyone who’s helped make AdaptNI what it is today – a growing movement for access, equality and opportunity.
We’re only three years in – and we’re just getting started.
