Over the past month, AdaptNI has been busy making significant strides in supporting the Deaf, hearing loss, and tinnitus communities across Northern Ireland. We’re proud to share some exciting updates that highlight our ongoing commitment to equality, inclusion, and empowerment.
Winning the Irish News DEI Award for Small Businesses
We are honoured to have been recognised with the Irish News Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Award, Small Business. This accolade is a testament to the dedication of our team and the impact of our work in creating accessible employment opportunities and support services tailored to the unique needs of our communities. It strengthens our resolve to continue championing equal access and inclusion for all.
Launch of Our New Youth Project (Ages 16-24)
In line with our mission to provide specialist support at every life stage, we have officially launched a new youth project targeting individuals aged 16 to 24. This programme focuses on supporting young people with Deafness, hearing loss, or tinnitus to develop essential skills, access education, training, and employment opportunities. By providing tailored guidance and empowerment, we aim to smooth the transition into adulthood, further education, employment and life opportunities. The pilot project also includes a fully accessible work experience week, March 2026.
Providing Evidence to Stormont on the BSL and ISL Act
We recently had the privilege of submitting evidence to Stormont regarding the forthcoming British Sign Language (BSL) and Irish Sign Language (ISL) Act. Our input emphasised the importance of specialist employment and training support, ensuring that legislation fully addresses the needs of Deaf BSL and ISL users across Northern Ireland. We look forward to seeing the positive changes this legislation will bring, reinforcing the rights and access of our communities.
Celebrating the Big Lunch Event – 3rd June
On 3rd June, AdaptNI was delighted to join our annual Big Lunch celebration bringing together all seven partners of the Supported Employment Solutions programme. The event was honoured by the presence of our funders, the Department for Communities (DfC), and the new Lord Mayor of Belfast, Tracey Kelly. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of participants and the collaborative spirit that drives our success.
Spaces Available on Our Pre- and In-Work Support Programmes
To support those preparing for employment or already in the workplace, AdaptNI currently has spaces available on both our Pre-Employment and In-Work Support Programmes. These services provide personalised guidance, skills development, and ongoing support to help individuals overcome barriers and succeed in their careers. We encourage anyone interested to get in touch and find out how we can assist.
